時は鬼が跳梁跋扈する平安時代
人の心の闇である妬み、恨み、嫉みはやがて鬼となり、
それを生み出した人を襲うようになっていた。
事態を重く見た時の帝は、大陰陽師である賀茂忠行に
都の鬼を一掃するよう命じた。
賀茂忠行は日本中から、能力の高い子供を集め
陰陽師として育て、鬼退治をさせる事になる。
やがて、数多の弟子の中に、他の弟子たちとは
比べ物にならない能力を持つ若者が現れた。
それが安倍晴明と蘆屋道満である。
しかし、晴明はその能力の高さゆえ
「あの力は、狐の子ゆえではないか？」と
陰口を叩かれていた。
また、当時の京都では僧侶と陰陽師の両者は、
共に鬼退治を命じられていたことから敵対関係にあり、
僧侶の術も使える蘆屋道満も弟子たちの中で
孤立していた。
鬼を殺せば、殺すほど、人から避けられてゆく二人だが、
大江山の酒天童子を退治した名将 源頼光だけは、
陰となり日向となり彼らを庇護するようになっていた。
そんなある日、京の都に妖狐が現れるようになる。
妖狐は鬼を喰らう神獣でもあるが、
人の心を鬼ごと喰らってしまうアヤカシでもあった。
人に狐は倒せない・・・。
人は戦う時、必ず心に鬼を生み出してしまう。
それは陰陽師も同じこと・・・。
むしろ、心の鬼を術に乗せ鬼を討つ。
まさに毒をもって毒を制すのが陰陽道である。
ゆえに、鬼を喰らう妖狐は、
例え陰陽師であっても手出しはできない。
倒そうとした瞬間に生まれる鬼を、
心ごと妖狐に喰らわれてしまうからである。
しかし、ある日、安倍晴明は一匹の妖狐を殺せてしまう。
それが、さらに晴明に暗い影を落とすことになる。
その男・・・狐の子
The time is the Heian period, when monsters roamed rampant.
Envy, resentment, and jealousy, the darkness of the human soul, eventually turned into monsters that attacked the human who created them.
The emperor at the time took the situation very seriously and ordered Kamo no Tadayuki, a great Onmyoji, to wipe out all the monsters in the capital.
Kamo no Tadayuki gathered gifted children from all over Japan to train them as Onmyoji to slay monsters.
Soon among his many disciples, emerged two young men who possessed abilities unmatched by any of his other disciples.
They were Abe no Seimei and Ashiya Douman.
However, because of Seimei’s great ability, people talked behind his back saying that his powers must have come from being a child of a fox spirit.
In Kyoto at that time, priests and Onmyoji were adversaries because they were both ordered to slay monsters.
Ashiya Douman, who could also use the adversary priests' spells felt isolated among the disciples as well.
The more monsters they slay, the more people came to avoid them.
However, only Minamoto no Raiko, the great general who had exterminated Shuten-doji, the monster from Mt. Oe, protected them openly as well as from behind the scenes.
Then one day, Youko, a monster eating fox spirit, began to appear in the capital of Kyoto.
Youko is a divine creature that devours monsters but is also an “Ayakashi” that devours the human soul with the monster it created.
Humans cannot slay a Youko.
When humans fight battles, they always create monsters in their souls.
It is the same for Onmyojj.
Rather Onmyoji puts the created monsters and put it on to their spells to slay the monsters.
Onmyodo is to fight one evil with another.
Therefore, even an Onmyoji cannot touch the monster eating Youko.
The moment the Onmyoji creates the monster to slay the Youko, the created monster will be devoured by the Youko, together with his soul.
One day, however, Abe no Seimei slayed a Youko.
But this casted an even darker shadow over Seimei.
This man...a child of a fox spirit.
